CTD Confirms Fresh Drone Attacks Target Kurdistan, Including DNO Oil Field in Zakho
Failed drone attacks targeted Shemamok and DNO oilfield in Kurdistan, causing no damage. Authorities demand Baghdad's intervention as assaults on critical infrastructure continue.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A bomb-laden drone crashed near the village of Sûrêja in the Shemamok subdistrict of Erbil province at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday , the Kurdistan Region's Directorate General of Counter-Terrorism (CTD) announced.
According to the statement, published on the CTD's official Facebook page, the incident did not result in any human or material losses.
Strike Targets DNO Oil Field in Zakho
Just five minutes later, at 10:55 a.m., a second bomb-laden drone targeted the DNO oil field in the Tawake area within the autonomous administration of Zakho, also according to CTD. Fortunately, this attack also caused no casualties or physical damage.
The back-to-back strikes highlight a sustained pattern of targeting key energy infrastructure and civilian zones across the Kurdistan Region, with no claim of responsibility released so far.
Drone Strike Marks Latest in Series of Attacks
The failed drone strike in Shemamok and the subsequent attack on the Tawake oil field come amid a surge in aerial assaults aimed at destabilizing the Kurdistan Region. While these specific attacks did not result in physical harm, the continued targeting of vital sectors and populated areas has fueled widespread alarm.
The CTD remains on high alert in response to the drone threat, as investigations into the source of these attacks continue.
Calls for Federal Action Mount Amid Ongoing Threats
Earlier today, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) parliamentary bloc called on the federal government in Baghdad to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities by halting the string of drone attacks and ensuring the protection of Iraq’s sovereignty and internal stability.
Kurdistan Region’s officials have warned that the persistence of these assaults not only threatens lives and infrastructure but also represents a direct challenge to Iraq’s national integrity and economic recovery.
As drone strikes continue across Kurdistan, pressure mounts on the federal government to act swiftly to deter further escalation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
