KRG Ministry of Health Offers Aid After Deadly Fire in Kut

Minister of Health Saman Barzanji conveyed Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s message of condolences and solidarity to Iraqi Federal Health Minister Salih al-Hasnawi, Wasit Governor Mohammed Jameel al-Mayahi, and Director General of Health Jabbar al-Yasiri.

ERBUL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has expressed deep concern and offered immediate assistance following a devastating fire that killed at least 61 people in Kut city, Wasit province, on Thursday.

In an official statement, the KRG Ministry of Health confirmed that Minister of Health Saman Barzanji conveyed Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s message of condolences and solidarity to Iraqi Federal Health Minister Salih al-Hasnawi, Wasit Governor Mohammed Jameel al-Mayahi, and Director General of Health Jabbar al-Yasiri.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region's readiness to support ongoing relief efforts by sending medical supplies and receiving the injured in KRG hospitals for treatment. He emphasized that the KRG Ministry of Health is fully prepared to provide emergency medical care to those affected by the tragedy.

The Federal Health Minister, along with Wasit’s governor and top health official, expressed their appreciation for Prime Minister Barzani’s humanitarian gesture and the KRG’s swift offer of assistance.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry reported that the fire broke out in a five-story building that had only recently opened, housing a restaurant and a hypermarket. Emergency response teams continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
