Motorbike bomb targets YPG convoy in Hasakah, Syrian Kurdistan

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – An explosion hit the Kurdish city of Hasakah in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) on Sunday with a few injuries reported.

A Kurdistan24 correspondent stated the explosion took place in the Misherfe area located in northern Hasakah.

He mentioned the explosion targeted a convoy of Peoples’ Protection Unit (YPG) fighters, and a number of people have been injured.

Following the blast, ambulances rushed to the scene and transferred the wounded people to the nearby hospitals.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Kurdistan24 correspondent stated witnesses in the area mentioned the explosion was detonated through a motorbike.

Sunday’s assault is not the first explosion to occur in the city.

On Oct. 3, a blast targeted a Kurdish wedding in northern Hasakah, killing over 30 people and injuring hundreds of other persons.

Following the explosion, the Islamic State (IS) claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Later, the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region condemned the violence in a statement and called on all the medical facilities in the Region to be ready to treat the injured people or send medical help to Rojava.

One of the wounded victims transferred to Duhok hospital was a one-year-old baby boy. The child lost his life shortly after admission due to acute injuries.

Hameed Darbandy, Head of Rojava Affairs at the Kurdistan Region Presidency, stated that after the attack, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) sent six tons of medical aid to Rojava through the crossing border of Pishabur in Zakho city, northwestern Kurdistan Region.
