Kurdistan parties urge Iranian Kurdish parties to reach unity

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Kurdish political parties in all parts of Kurdistan on Sunday gathered in support of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Iran (KDP) following a twin bomb attack at its headquarters.

Kurdish parties from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria held a meeting at the KDP headquarters in Koya, west of Erbil, reiterating the need for Kurdish unity in the face of terror.

In a press conference following the meeting, Khalid Azizi, the General Secretary of the KDP, urged all Kurdish parties to stand together against terror and oppression.

“All parties together have condemned terror and reiterated that Kurdish struggle in all parts of Kurdistan would not bow to terror, oppression, and executions,” he stated.

“KDP did not bow to terror, although its leaders were assassinated, and have always stood up to continue its struggle,” Azizi added.

On the night of Dec. 20, twin bomb attacks targeted the KDP headquarters killing six Peshmerga and one local Kurdish security. Three others were also wounded.

“Another point the participating parties stressed on was the Kurdistan Region had recorded a big victory against the Islamic State’s (IS) terror and had reached a stage to determine its future,” Azizi said.

“Therefore, everyone’s message was to stand against anyone who tries to distort the security situation in the Region,” he told reporters.

The KDP General Secretary explained the Middle East was undergoing changes, adding the unity of Kurds would help them stand against any future terror plots.

“The Kurdish parties called upon the Iranian Kurdish parties to unite and have a united front for the struggle in Iranian Kurdistan [Rojhilat],” Azizi concluded.
