Suspects linked to explosions at Iranian Kurdish party headquarters arrested

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region Security Council’s (KRSC) police forces (Asayish) on Monday announced the arrest of two suspects linked to the explosion at the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Iran (KDP) headquarters.

In a statement, the KRSC’s Asayish Agency revealed they had arrested two suspects involved in the twin bomb attacks on the exiled Iranian Kurdish party headquarters in Koya, west of Erbil Province.

On the night of Dec. 20, twin bomb attacks targeted the KDP headquarters taking the lives of six Peshmerga and one local Kurdish security. Three other people were also wounded.

“After the attack, investigations to find the perpetrators had begun and, later, two people who had been involved in the attack based on the gathered evidence were arrested,” the statement added.

“The investigations continued until the Asayish Agency forces were able to identify the main suspect in the attack, but they had managed to flee,” the KRSC statement continued.

The report did not explain how and where the suspect had fled.

However, the statement explained, “efforts were ongoing to arrest the identified suspect.”  

Six days after the attack on the KDP headquarters, no one had claimed responsibility for the violence.

“There is no doubt it’s the Iranian regime,” Asso Hassan Zadeh, a central committee member, told Reuters at the fallen Peshmerga’s funerals.

“But, in any case, we will not stop our struggle,” he added.

“We will not respond to terror with terror,” Khaled Azizi, the Secretary-General of the PDK, previously stated. “The Islamic Republic of Iran wants to create an atmosphere of instability.”
