U.S.-coalition conducts 24 strikes on IS bases

U.S.-led coalition conducted 24 airstrikes in Iraq, targeted jihadist bases in different parts of the country on Friday.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (K24) – On Friday, the U.S.-led coalition conducted 24 airstrikes in Iraq, targeting jihadist bases in different parts of the country.

The international coalition released a statement revealing that its jets had targeted Islamic State (IS) vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) facilities and destroyed two buildings in Hit city, Anbar Province in Iraq.

The statement mentioned that the jets had conducted three strikes near Kisik areas in northern Iraq, targeting IS tactical units and destroying an IS heavy machine gun and IS fighting base.      

Another three strikes targeted IS tactical units and destroyed two heavy machine guns, six IS bases, a command and control node, seven IS assembly areas, a weapon cache, a trench and an IS VBIED near Mosul city in northern Iraq.

Ramadi city, in Anbar Province, is another location that the U.S.-led coalition jets shelled, striking a large IS tactical unit and destroying a VBIED facility, five IS bases, two heavy machine guns, and also denying IS access to terrain.

The warplanes also found an IS fighting position near Sinjar town in northern Iraq, targeted their base, and suppressed two heavy machine gun positions. Furthermore, the coalition airstrikes targeted three IS weapons caches, a command and control node and six IS fighting positions near Sultan Abdullah in northern Iraq.

The statement also mentioned that the warplanes had conducted 11 strikes in northern Iraq near Tal Afar town, destroying nine IS bunkers, five IS-used culverts, and four IS-used bridges.

Since August 2014, the U.S.-led coalition jets had started to shell IS bases when IS took control of Sinjar and advanced to Makhmour south of Erbil, the capital city of the Kurdistan Region.
