Iraqi Sunni leaders condemn Iran

"As soldiers we are all waiting for zero-hour to expel Iran’s men from Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon."

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (K24) - Iraqi Sunni leaders based in the Kurdistan Region held a press conference in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, on Tuesday?, declaring they are against the Iranian intervention in the Saudi Arabia affairs.

Sheikh Abdulrazaq Al-Shammari, the representative of Sunni tribal leaders in Iraq, read the statement that said “Iran wants to expand its hegemony over Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon.”

“Tehran is trying to control the Arab world and the region through supporting its affiliated groups and is creating sectarian sedition," the statement emphasized.

The Sunni leaders asked why the whole world raises voice against the execution of a Shia cleric who committed a crime, but the international community is silent when Iranian-backed militias kill Sunni people, forcibly displaces thousands of Sunni families, and destroys infrastructure in the Sunni areas.

In support of the Saudi-led Islamic anti-Terror alliance, the statement said, “As soldiers we are all waiting for zero-hour to expel Iran’s men from Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.”

Al-Shammari, who was also the spokesperson for the anti-government popular protests in Ramadi and other Sunni provinces in Iraq in late 2013 and early 2014, said in the that Iranian-backed militias committed crimes against Sunnis in Babylon province, burning and destroying four Sunni mosques. We ask the Iraqi government to arrest the people behind this crime.”

On January 4, 2016, three mosques were attacked and exploded by unknown gunmen in Babylon province. According to the statement by Iraqi Minister of Interior that confirmed the attack on Sunni mosques, these attempts are to revive the sectarian violence among Iraqis.

Al-Shammari also thanked the Kurdistan Region for hosting the Iraqi Sunnis and said "the region has been the only safe haven for the oppressed Sunnis in Iraq."
