Czech Republic delivers six tons of medical equipment to Kurdistan Region

The medical aid included “two surgical theaters and three delivery room sets” for hospital centers across the Kurdistan Region, including Zakho and Halabja.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Czech Republic on Thursday announced that it had delivered six tons of medical equipment to the health sector of the Kurdistan Region in a bid to “better the quality of health” in the area.

The arrival of the medical supplies was announced at a press conference, held at Erbil International Airport, which was attended by several senior officials, including the Kurdish Health Minister, Saman Barzinji, and the Czech Consul General Michal Svoboda.

The medical aid included “two surgical theaters and three delivery room sets” for hospital centers across the Kurdistan Region, including Zakho and Halabja.

The assistance was delivered to the Region as part of the financial donations of the Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic, according to a statement from the Czech consulate general in Erbil.

Last year, in the same framework of Development Cooperation, the European country delivered a number of hospital beds to a teaching pediatric hospital in Sulaimani, as well as a score of other beds to a similar health facility in Duhok province, according to the Czech statement.

“We have plans to continue our aid in 2021 and our support for the [ Kurdistan Region’s] health sector and other fields,” according to the release.

The Czech Republic is “pleased to help the Kurdistan Region, [because its] people are our friends,” the Czech Consul General said.

From 2017 onward, the Czech Republic has focused on “bettering the quality of health,” including “improving pediatric health, education, psychological support, food security, water treatment solutions,” as well as “protecting historical sites, and supporting economic reform and diversification,” the statement explained.
