ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region will soon receive an additional 100,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses and 90 solar-generated electric light poles for one of Erbil’s main streets, China’s diplomat in the region said.

Chinese Consul General Ni Ruchi made the announcement during a meeting with Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw when the two met on Thursday.

Ni pledged the Sinopharm COVID vaccines would soon arrive, according to a press release from the Erbil governorate.

Sinopharm vaccines, the first to be delivered to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, were received in early March and administered first to the Kurdish health care workers.

China assisted the Kurdistan Region early in the coronavirus outbreak with a donation of personal protective equipment.

Earlier this week the Kurdistan Regional Government urged the international community to assist it in accessing more COVID-19 vaccines amidst a mounting infection rate.

Ni also said 90 light posts would be installed in the capital that use solar power. The state-of-the-art posts will be erected on one of Erbil’s main streets.
