EU reiterates support for Kurdistan Region

The Kurdish premier thanked the outgoing EU Ambassador to Iraq in a meeting in Erbil for his efforts towards strengthening bilateral relations between the EU and the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a meeting with the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday, the European Union envoy to Iraq stressed support for the region, according to a press release.

Premier Barzani received in Erbil the EU Ambassador to Iraq Martin Huth, whose term is about to Iraq, a statement from Barzani’s office said.

Barzani thanked Huth for his efforts in strengthening bilateral relations between the EU and the Kurdistan Region, according to the statement.

The European ambassador, in turn, expressed his gratitude for Erbil's cooperation with the European Union Embassy in Baghdad and reiterated the EU's continued support for the Kurdistan Region, the statement added.

The Kurdish premier and the EU diplomat also discussed the latest political developments in Iraq, including the upcoming general elections of the country scheduled for October 10.

The European Union in parallel to its Baghdad Embassy has an office in the Kurdistan Region, through which it coordinates with Kurdish authorities.
