ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Turkish forces bombarded the countryside of the northern Syrian Kurdish border city of Kobani for a second day, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Sunday.

Citing reliable sources, the Observatory reported that “Turkish rockets hit Khani village in the eastern countryside of Kobani and the villages of Arida, Jarn, Qazali, Zenobia, Hurriya and Ahmadiyah in the western countryside of Tel Abyad.”

No casualties were reported as a result of the bombardments.

However, on the previous day, SOHR activists reported that civilians, among them women and children, were injured as a result of the Turkish rocket fire on Kobani city and the countryside. One child lost his leg.

On that day, Turkish shells “hit positions in Kobani city and nearly 15 villages and towns in the countryside of Kobani and Tel Abyad, including Kobralak, Jurn, Kaltab, Qarmough, Tel Jib Khanah, Zarzouri, Sawwan, Salibi, Khan and Bir Arab.”

Turkey and Turkish-backed paramilitaries routinely target northeastern Syrian territories controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). These bombardments often injure or even kill civilians.

On Dec. 30, 2021, three civilians – two women and a child – were killed when Turkish-backed groups shelled the northern countryside of Syria’s Hasakash province.

On Dec. 21, shelling by Turkish-backed groups outside the Syrian city of Tal Tamir also killed three civilians and injured more, including children.
