Canada warns against all travel to Iraq

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Canadian Government in an updated travel advice on Tuesday warned all Canadians to avoid all travel to Iraq.

The Canadian government said travel to Iraq should be avoided “due to a continued volatile, unpredictable, and potentially dangerous security situation. If you are in Iraq, consider departing by commercial means if it is safe to do so.”

Moreover, it said that the “security situation in the country can deteriorate without warning.”

The U.S. State Department on Sunday called on its citizens not to travel to Iraq and ordered nonessential U.S. personnel to leave Erbil and Baghdad due to increased security threats and attacks on U.S. forces in the area.

Multiple bases used by U.S.-led coalition troops in Iraq and Syria have been targeted by Iranian-backed groups in recent days amidst Israel's war with Hamas.

Iran has accused the U.S. of supporting Israel’s war in Gaza.
