Senior Turkish delegation to visit Baghdad to discuss Kurdistan Region oil exports

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A reliable source in the Iraqi Council of Ministers on Thursday told Kurdistan24 that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and Director of the National Intelligence Organization of Turkey Ibrahim Kalın will visit Baghdad to meet with senior Iraqi officials.  

The source stated that the Turkish delegation would discuss three main objectives during their visit. These objectives are the resumption of Kurdistan Region oil through the port of Ceyhan, strengthening the borders between Iraq and Turkey to prevent movements by the PKK, and making preparations for the Turkish president's upcoming visits to Erbil and Baghdad.

On Feb. 26, the Kurdistan24 correspondent in Ankara reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would visit Iraq after Turkish local elections on March 31.

On March 21, 2023, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani visited Turkey and met with the Turkish President in Ankara, where they discussed the water crisis.

Turkey and Iraq enjoy lucrative economic ties. It was reported that in the year 2022, the two countries traded $15 billion in goods, an overwhelming part of which was transported through the Ibrahim Khalil (Habur) border near the Zakho independent administration of the Kurdistan Region.
