ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has announced its decision to abstain from participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections, alleging that they are being mandated by an unconstitutional entity against the will of the Kurdish people.

During his appearance on the Kurdistan24 program Basi Roj (Today's Topic) on Monday, Hemn Hawrami, a member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), asserted the party's stance as a trailblazer in electoral matters.

Hawrami emphasized the KDP's rejection of the legitimacy of decisions made by the Federal Court over the past four years, citing the need to rectify what he described as a deviation from the constitutional framework that has shifted Iraq from a multi-communal to a single-communal trajectory.

"Our disagreement with our partners lies in our strategic vision for the Kurdistan Region as a political entity," Hawrami stated, underlining the party's commitment to prioritizing national interests over partisan agendas.

Referring to the Kurdistan Region's electoral landscape, Hawrami pointed to the KDP’s consistent dominance in previous elections, highlighting the party's confidence in its electoral support base.

"The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) committed a strategic blunder by resorting to the Federal Court, an unconstitutional entity that PUK is already aware of," Hawrami warned, signaling a rift within Kurdish political dynamics over the election dispute.
