The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Masrour Barzani on Wednesday congratulated the newly elected President of the United States Donald Trump.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) Masrour Barzani on Wednesday congratulated the newly elected President of the United States Donald Trump.

“I congratulate Donald Trump on being elected the next US President. We hope the President-elect will increase support to the Peshmerga and the Kurdish people as the most reliable, effective and trusted ally in the war on terrorism,” Barzani tweeted on his official Twitter account.

Trump gained at least 276 votes while his counterpart, the Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton, won 218 votes.

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans,” Trump said in his victory speech in New York on Wednesday.

Additionally, he mentioned Clinton had called him to concede the competition.

“Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country,” he said. “I mean that very sincerely.”

“America will no longer settle for anything less than the best. We must reclaim our country’s destiny and dream big and bold and daring,” Trump continued.

“We have to do that. We’re going to dream of things for our country, and beautiful things and successful things once again,” he concluded.

Kurdish Peshmerga forces have been labeled one of the most efficient ground forces in the fight against the Islamic State (IS).

Since the emergence of the extremist group in June 2014, the Kurdish forces have liberated large swaths of territory.

Peshmerga and Iraqi forces continue to push IS inside Mosul since the start of the offensive to liberate the city began on Oct. 17.

Peshmerga and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials had repeatedly mentioned they need more weapons and ammunition as they fight against the largest terrorist organization on behalf of the entire world.
