KRG warns of serious political conspiracy against Kurdistan Region

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Tuesday stated the articles related to the Kurdistan Region’s share of the Iraqi budget bill for 2017 were a serious political conspiracy.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Tuesday stated the articles related to the Kurdistan Region’s share of the Iraqi budget bill for 2017 were a serious political conspiracy.

In a statement, the KRG warned the Kurdish members of the Iraqi parliament to avoid being part of the plan against the rights of the people of Kurdistan.

“The budget proposal was designed against the Kurdistan Region as the KRG, and its related institutions, did not participate in the process of preparing and approving the bill by the Iraqi Council of Ministers and Iraqi Parliament,” the statement read.

Regarding the Peshmerga’s share of the budget mentioned in the bill, the KRG statement explained it consisted of the same empty promises as previous years.

“[The bill contains] the same text as the previous years but, for unknown reasons, it has never been implemented,” the statement continued.

“In 2017’s bill, the share provided to the Peshmerga and the number of Peshmerga forces receiving salaries [from the Iraqi government] had not been mentioned,” the KRG report added.

“Despite the presence of a legal text, since 2005 until now, not even an Iraqi dinar has been provided to the Peshmerga forces,” the statement concluded.

Since the emergence of the Islamic State (IS) in 2014, the Kurdish forces are considered one of the most effective units defeating the insurgents.

Moreover, the Kurdistan Region had been forced to carry the burden of sheltering nearly 1.8 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees who fled parts of Iraq and Syria.
