Chancellor Barzani: Peshmerga part of stabilization in region

Peshmerga has often been praised for being the most efficient ground troops in defeating the Islamic State (IS).

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) on Sunday reiterated Peshmerga were vital for stabilization in the region.

While on a Peshmerga front line, the Chancellor of the KRSC Masrour Barzani told Kurdistan24 the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces were part of the stability in the region and crucial in the fight against terror.  

Chancellor Barzani accompanied the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on their visit to a Peshmerga front line on Zartik mountain in eastern Mosul.

Kurdish military officials showed the leaders areas liberated by Peshmerga forces on a map and informed them of the latest developments in the battle of Mosul.

Regarding the visit of the Turkish PM to the Region, Chancellor Barzani stated the KRG and Turkish delegation discussed bilateral relations between the two governments.

The developments in the region and relations between Iraq and Turkey were also examined.

“[The Turkish PM’s visit] is a sign of success for the diplomacy of the President of the Kurdistan Region and gratitude to the Kurdish people’s will,” the KRSC Chancellor said.

Yildirim on Sunday met the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Nechirvan Barzani and President Barzani in Erbil to discuss a variety of subjects.

On Saturday, Yildirim and his accompanied delegates also visited Baghdad and met with Iraqi officials.

Peshmerga has often been praised for being the most efficient ground troops in defeating the Islamic State (IS).

Since the emergence of IS in June 2014 in northern Iraq, the Kurdish forces liberated 30,000 square kilometers, according to the KRSC Chancellor.
