VIDEO: Iraqi forces discover IS shell, bomb factories in Mosul

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Following the advance of Iraqi troops against the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Mosul, they confiscated two large factories containing bombs and shells in the city’s newly liberated neighborhoods.

In the video below, Kurdistan24 correspondent Chakdar Jamal in Mosul explores two large factories and storage units recently confiscated by the Iraqi troops in the neighborhoods of Tamim and Karama.

Inside the factories, there were several explosive substances and pieces of steel used to create bombs and shells.

“It is a big achievement for the Iraqi forces to confiscate these types of factories from Da’esh,” an Iraqi officer told Kurdistan24, using the Arabic pejorative for IS.

According to the officer, the factories were a great asset and offered military support to the group.

IS occupied Mosul in June 2014. Shortly afterward, the group expanded to other parts of Iraq, but have now lost most of the territory it once controlled.

On Oct. 17, 2017, Iraqi and Peshmerga forces launched the military operation to retake Mosul.

The forces continue their advance to the center of the city as the operation is ongoing.
