Barzani discusses IS war with Syrian, US, Turkish officials in Munich

During the third day of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, the President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani met with several delegations and discussed the war against the Islamic State (IS).

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday, during the third day of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, the President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani met with several delegations and discussed the war against the Islamic State (IS).

President Barzani met with the President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition Anas al-Abdeh and his delegates.

Both sides discussed the current political and security situation in Syria and the future Geneva peace talks, according to the press office of the Kurdistan Region Presidency.

Later, President Barzani met Brett McGurk, the US Presidential Special Envoy for the US-led coalition against IS.

McGurk stated the fight against the extremist group was one of the priorities of the US’ foreign policy.

Additionally, McGurk praised the role of Peshmerga in battling IS and its cooperation with the Iraqi forces and coalition.

He emphasized the US would continue backed the people of the Kurdistan Region just like how Washington supported Kurdistan in defeating IS, according to the Presidency statement.

Moreover, the Kurdish delegation met with the Prime Minister of Turkey Binali Yildirim.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the latest development in the Middle East and the war against IS in Iraq and Syria.

Economic relations were another topic addressed at the meeting between both officials.

During the three days of the conference, President Barzani met with many world officials to foster bilateral relations and gain more support in eradicating the insurgent group.

President Barzani has also been invited to visit Paris and meet with French President Francois Hollande at the Élysée Palace.
