VIDEO: Fire in Duhok’s market leaves six casualties
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – At least one person died, and five others were wounded after a fire broke out at one of Duhok’s central markets on Monday.
A massive fire broke out at the Chale market, one of the most crowded bazaars in the province of Duhok, northern Kurdistan Region, leaving over 200 shops engulfed in flames.
According to the Directorate of Health in Duhok, one person had died, and five others were wounded, including one of the firefighters.
The fire was started when a generator providing electricity to some of the shops caught fire.
The fire led to an explosion of a barrel of gasoline on the rooftop of one of the shops which spread the flames to other stores.
Most of the shops in the market were clothing and fabric stores.
According to a firefighting team speaking to Kurdistan24, 15 units from Duhok city arrived at the location.
However, due to the narrow streets leading to the burning shops, it was difficult to control the fire quickly.
