Richard Fadden: Canada will continue to support the Peshmerga

Richard Fadden praised KRG’s humanitarian and military response to the IS crisis

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (K24) --Richard Fadden, National Security Advisor to Prime Minister of Canada, met with the Foreign Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Falah Mustafa and his accompanying delegation on Wednesday.
Canada’s National Security Advisor in Ottawa expressed the commitment of the government of Canada to continue providing assistance to the Kurdistan Region.
“We are aware of the needs of the Kurdistan Region in the military and humanitarian areas. There is no doubt that Canada will continue to support Kurdistan Region in various areas,” Fadden said.
He praised KRG’s humanitarian and military response to the IS crisis and spoke highly of the region’s open-door policy towards refugees and displaced people regardless of their ethnic or religious background.
Mr. Fadden stressed that IS is a scourge that threatens not only Kurdistan Region but the whole world and the international community has a shared responsibility to unite in the face of this terrorist organization.
Abdul Rahman Al-Hussaini, the Iraqi Ambassador to Canada, Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, KRG Representative to the US, and Minister Falah Mustafa were present at the meeting and expressed the gratitude of the people and government of Kurdistan Region for Canada’s military and humanitarian assistance.
The KRG Foreign Minister spoke to Fadden about the latest advances of the Peshmerga forces against the IS, in particular the liberation of Shingal. He thanked the coalition forces for the airstrikes during the Shingal operation and stressed that with continued military support, the Peshmerga will defeat IS.
