Iraqi Defense Minister to submit Yazidi Peshmerga’s request for armament to Iraqi PM

The zero hour of liberating Mosul is close, says Iraqi Defense Minister.

SINJAR, Kurdistan Region (K24) – In a visit to Sinjar – a Kurdish Yazidi town in northern Iraq-- Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi promised the Yezidi Peshmerga forces in the town that he will deliver their request for more arms to the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Abadi as Peshmerga forces in the area do not have sufficient weapons in fight against jihadists.

On Friday, Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi met Yazidi Peshmerga commander Qassem Shasho and Sinjar Mayor Mahma Khalil in Sinjar Town. He visited Peshmerga frontlines in the area.

In the meeting with the Peshmerga, al-Obeidi stated that when he goes back to Baghdad, he will deliver the request of Shasho to the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Abadi regarding the armament of Yazidi Peshmerga force with different kind of weapons.

In regards to the liberation of Mosul city in northern Iraq, he said, “the zero hour of liberating Mosul is close.”

He continued, “The process of freeing Mosul will start from the side of Kurdistan Region, Sinjar and southern Mosul.”

“Mosul liberation will be permanent, and it will end the Islamic State (IS) in the area,” added al-Obeidi.

He also mentioned that Baghdad government hopes that the situation in Sinjar will be stable and safe so that the displaced people of the town will return to their own areas.

IS insurgents took control of Sinjar on August 2014 following their emergence in Iraq on June 2014. On November 13, Peshmerga forces in coordination with the international coalition airstrikes successfully liberated Sinjar from jihadists.
