Suleimaniyah Head of Social Development Monitoring apologizes to Kurds with disabilities

He apologized them for not being able to meet their full demands.

SULEIMANIYAH, Kurdistan Region (K24) – On the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, Omar Gulpi, the head of Social Development in Suleimaniyah  on Thursday congratulated the people with disabilities in the Kurdistan Region for this remarkable day of December 3 and apologized to them for not being able to meet their full demands.

In a statement that released on Thursday, Gulpi congratulated the people with disabilities in Suleimaniyah and Kurdistan Region in general due to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. At the same time, he apologized to hem for living in such a difficult condition.

He mentioned that  this apology is due to his feeling of responsibility toward different components of people, especially people with disabilities in the Kurdistan Region.

Gulpi stated that he will continue to do more in the coming years to serve people's needs and stressed that unfortunately, the Kurdistan Region is going through a  difficult financial crisis.

He apologized for not being able to meet the full demands of people with disabilities in Suleimaniyah Province. “In spite of all works and responsibilities that I have been able to do in the last six months, I hope Kurdistan Region will get rid of all crises in the coming year, and I hope  Peshmerga forces will achieve a permanent success [in the fight against jihadists],” he added.

There are over 120,000 people with disabilities living in the Kurdistan Region, according to the Kurdistan’s Group of Persons with Disabilities. The group has revealed that the number has  increased over the last few years.

“We hope the New Year will be a good year with better  conditions for you [people with disabilities] all,” Gulpi concluded.

Initiatives of the day begun when the United Nations General Assembly declared in 1981  the International Year of Disabled Persons, calling all states to concentrate on providing equal opportunities for people with disabilities. In 2006, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
