Kurdistan Region Presidency refutes receiving financial aid from Saudi Arabia

Rumors spread by media on Barzani's visit, stating that the Kurdistan Region has received financial support from Saudi Arabia, are totally baseless.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (K24) - The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region denies the rumors regarding the reception of financial aid from Saudi Arabia, following the recent visit of Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani to Riyadh.

According to a statement published by the Kurdistan Regional Presidency on Saturday, rumors spread by media on Barzani's visit, stating that the Kurdistan Region has received financial support from Saudi Arabia, are totally baseless.

The statement also mentions that President Barzani was formally invited by the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al- Saud, where they discussed the diplomatic and economic ties between Iraq generally and the Kurdistan Region especially, along with the war against the Islamic State (IS).

The security issues and the internally displaced people (IDP) were also among the subjects discussed amid the combat against IS and economic crisis in Northern Iraq.

However, the statement has emphasized that though both Kurdistan Region and Iraq need help from all their neighbors and friends, particularly in this hard phase of confronting IS and the financial crises that the Kurdistan Region has been suffering, it refutes receiving any financial aid from Riyadh.

Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani recently launched a series of visits to Gulf countries, starting on November 28. His first visit was to UAE where he met with top officials, and then he visited Saudi Arabia where he met with King Salman.
