Temperatures as high as 50 degrees Celsius expected in parts of Kurdistan

The increase in temperatures could be felt from Monday onwards in the Kurdistan Region, a weather forecasting official said.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Temperature increases of up to two degrees Celsius are expected this week across the Kurdistan Region, with some areas likely reaching as high as 50 degrees Celcius, according to Kurdish weather authorities.

The increase in temperatures can be felt from Monday onwards in the Kurdistan Region, where temperatures have recently been around 43 degrees Celsius, Fazil Ibrahim, the head of Climate and Earthquake directorate said on Sunday.

In eastern parts of the Kurdistan Region commonly known as Garmiyan, including parts of Kirkuk and Khanaqin, the mercury is expected to go as high as 50 degrees Celsius, the official added.

The weather conditions will not be considered a “heatwave,” according to the official.
