Kurdistan Region Prime Minister and President meet with US Congress delegation in Munich

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with a US Congressional delegation led by Senator Lindsey Graham on the second day of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

Prime Minister Barzani and President Barzani both expressed their gratitude for American aid to the Kurdistan Region, noting that the continuation of such support is essential to defeating the last remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS), the KRG said in a press statement.

“The US delegation reiterated that the Congress values the Kurdistan Region adding that, considering the challenges in the region, they believe the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the US should remain strong,” the KRG said.

The delegations also discussed the latest developments in Iraq, including efforts to form a new Iraqi cabinet, and the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court’s latest ruling on the Kurdistan Region’s oil and gas industry.

The Munich Security Conference started on Friday with both the President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani present.

They have so far met with several senior officials on the sidelines of the event, including representatives from the UN, Italy, and Turkey.

A number of senior world leaders and officials are participating in the 3-day Munich Security Conference, mainly focused on the Ukraine crisis.
