ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Ali Hussein, a member of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Leadership Council and Head of the party's Relations Bureau, has stressed that the KDP is not against any Iraqi political party.

He added that close ties between the KDP and any Iraqi party are purely for "protecting the interests of Kurdistan Region and the people of Iraq."

Hussein also stated that the KDP establishes close relations with those with a positive stance toward solving the problems between Erbil and Baghdad. He also clarified that the KDP's closeness to a particular political party doesn't mean it is against the other political parties.

Hussein also said the Iraqi presidency, traditionally observed for a Kurd, should be used for meeting the demands of the Kurdistan Region's people. He also said that those who represent the Kurdistan Region must be capable of fulfilling the people's needs.

"We had notes about the previous presidents of Iraq, and the constitution has been violated the whole time," he said.

Hussein also commented on the KDP's relationship with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

"We are running the Kurdistan Regional Government together," he said.

"If any problems happen between the two (KDP and PUK) in the future, it won't matter because the interests of the region will always bring us (back together) again."
