ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday in Duhok inaugurated the Distar Factory, a wheat flour mill, where he delivered a speech.

"I am grateful to the manufacturing company for creating hundreds of jobs for young people," said Prime Minister Barzani.

The premier also underlined that it is the primary objective of the Ninth Cabinet to pay attention to the agricultural sector and to ensure food security. To accomplish this, we have implemented several important projects in the Kurdistan Region in collaboration with the private sector, including marketing and selling farmers' wheat.

“We want to assure our farmers that the Kurdistan Regional Government will support them and work to find domestic and foreign markets for their products," he noted.

Moreover, Barzani added that the construction of such factories will help Kurdistan Region farmers sell their products. “In addition, it serves as an incentive for them to continue farming and producing. I assure them that I am committed to the development of the agricultural sector and to help farmers, we will do everything in our power to assist them."

“The process of exporting our farmers' local products to foreign markets has already begun and will continue in the coming years,” noted Barzani.

Lastly, he indicated that the Kurdistan Region has always been an important agricultural region with a vast and rich land base. “If used properly, we can ensure our food security and become a food basket for Iraq and the world,” he stressed and explained "The Kurdistan Region should rely less on foreign countries to meet domestic needs.”
