ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Turkey on Tuesday again carried out dozens of attacks on locations in northeast Syria, including several checkpoints controlled by the Asayish (Internal Security Forces) of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Northeast Syria (DAANES).

According to the Syria-based Rojava Information Centre (RIC), Turkey has carried out airstrikes on 6 checkpoints of the Asayish (Internal Security Forces), including 1 in Qamishlo, 2 in Amude and 3 in Kobani.

The local Hawar News Agency (ANHA) said 10 Asayish points were targeted in northeast Syria. Furthermore, one hospital in Kobani went out of service due to the bombings.

The Communications Department of the DAANES on Tuesday said that the Turkish army has carried out 40 attacks in northeast Syria with 7 Turkish jets and 33 drones, in which 8 civilians were killed and 18 citizens were injured.

The Kurdish Red Crescent in a report said that the airstrikes on Monday “continued until late at night. At least 8 people died in the attacks and 15 were injured. The main targets were civilian infrastructure.”

“In Kobane an outpatient clinic specialized in diabetes and supported through a German association was hit and destroyed. Fortunately, the clinic was closed due to the Christmas holidays and no casualties were reported.”

“Turkey seeks to drive people away from the region to change the demography in northeastern Syria, similar to its efforts in other Kurdish regions like Afrin since its occupation in February 2018,” the Kurdish Red Crescent said.

Mazloum Abdi (Kobani), commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, said the “silence of the international community and human rights organizations is a worrying signal.”

“We are counting on agreements with the Global Coalition to avoid aggravation of the situation and the outbreak of a major war.”

Also on Saturday and Monday, Turkish jets and drones targeted locations in northeast Syria, after 12 Turkish soldiers were killed in fighting with Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the Kurdistan Region.
