US support solving Erbil-Baghdad problems by compliance to constitution

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - President of the Diwan of Council of Ministers Umed Sabah Othman received the US Consul General, Mr. Mark Stroh and the accompanying delegation on Thursday in Erbil. The meeting revolved around the recent developments in the wider region, the challenges facing the political process in Iraq and the Erbil-Baghdad relations.

They highlighted the recent visit of Prime Minister Masrur Barzani to Washington, describing it as a historical visit of magnificent importance. Continuing cooperating and relation between both the Kurdistan Region and the US was also emphasized.

During the meeting, the issue of amendment of parliamentary election law of Kurdistan Region, the Federal Court’s verdict and its subsequent outcomes, Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary election, steps in unification of Peshmerga force, and the memorandum of understanding between Kurdistan Region and the US were also discussed.

Mark Stroh, the US Consul General, reiterated his and the US government’s support for the Kurdistan Region. He also expressed that the ongoing issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi Government could be solved by compliance to the constitution and continuing dialogue between the two parties.
