We are against the creation of any region based on sectarianism, says Sunni leader

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – During a panel at the fifth al-Rafidain Center for Dialogue (RCD) in Baghdad, the head of the Sunni Sovereignty Alliance Khamis al-Khanjar, on Monday said that “they are against the creation of any region based on sectarianism.”

Regarding electing a new Iraqi parliament speaker, Khanjar said they are in serious talks about organizing the meeting and electing a new speaker.

He also stated that Iraq's constitution guarantees the issue of regions.

Concerning the presence of US troops in Iraq, Khanjar added that “The United States and Iraq must engage in serious dialogue so that this issue can be resolved.”

Kurdistan24 is one of the media sponsors of the fifth meeting of the RCD, which was held on Sunday under the slogan "Future of Mankind: Crises and Transformations."

The meeting will consist of eleven panels, most of which will be attended by senior officials of the Iraqi government, ministers, parliamentarians, and advisors, and it will last three days.
