KRG President Urges Increased Focus on Women’s Nomination in Upcoming Elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Nechirvan Barzani in a statement on Friday extended his warmest congratulations on the occasion of March 8 the International Women’s Day.

President Barzani remarked that, “the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is full of hope and optimism to see women’s actual participation and contribution in all spheres of life in Kurdistan.”

The statement also reiterates President’s Barzani’s continuous support for women’s rights and urges political parties to “pay more attention to the nomination of women in the next elections.”

In the statement, President Barzani paid tribute to all women who bravely stood up in their struggle to “protect and defend their rights, or who were unjustly victims of violence and extremist thought and backwardness.”

President Barzani also emphasized that the Kurdistan Region will do the “utmost to oppose any thought, speech, oppression, violence, harassment and injustice against women.”

The statement also refers to the fact that a harmonious and advanced society fostering peace and well-being, nurturing a competent generation for a brighter future, hinges on the pillars of freedom, equality, and women's rights.

“It is incumbent upon everyone, at every societal tier, to champion women's cause with unwavering belief and solidarity until triumph,” President Barzani highlighted.
