Iraqi Presidency affirms KRG’s constitutional powers

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Iraqi Presidency stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) holds all constitutional and federal powers over the region and its citizens, provided they align with the constitution and federal government powers.

Iraqi President Latif Rasheed met with Federal Supreme Court President Jassim Mohammed Aboud in Baghdad, affirming Iraq's federal nature and the recognition of the Kurdistan Region as per the constitution.

President Rasheed clarified that finance, customs, trade, and border powers are under the central government's jurisdiction, but their implementation falls within the Kurdistan Region's authority.

Jassim Mohammed Aboud, President of the Federal Court, mentioned coordination between the Ministries of Finance of the central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to enforce Federal Court decisions.

Additionally, President of the Federal Court noted that, in accordance to the statement from the Ministry of Finance, opening Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) employees' bank accounts needs time, suggesting they be paid in cash until their salaries are deposited into the accounts.
