ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani on Tuesday emphasized the importance of safeguarding the constitutional framework of the Kurdistan Region, as well as the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people, according to a statement from the Barzani Headquarters.

KDP President Masoud Barzani's remarks came during his meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Iraq Maurizio Greganti.

The Italian Ambassador to Iraq expressed his pleasure at meeting KDP President Barzani again and wished him and the Kurdish people a happy Newroz.

KDP President Barzani thanked the Italian Ambassador for his congratulations and stated that Newroz is a symbol of victory over darkness for the Kurds, symbolizing the lighting of the flame of freedom and peace.

The meeting addressed the most recent advancements in the political process as well as the parliamentary elections in Kurdistan. KDP President Barzani commented on the KDP Political Bureau's decision to not participate in the elections, stating that the KDP has consistently worked towards finding solutions that promote stability.

Greganti expressed his full understanding of the situation, and both sides stressed the importance of finding a solution based on democracy and the federal government.
