KRG assures aid to Duhok flood victims, allocating 117 apartments

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – In a gesture of solidarity and support, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)’s Presdient Masoud Barzani and KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani have stepped forward to aid the victims of recent flooding in Duhok.

During a press conference on Thursday, Duhok Governor Ali Tatar, alongside KDP's President's representative Mansour Barzani, announced the allocation of 117 apartments to those affected by the calamity.

Governor Tatar highlighted the unwavering commitment of both KDP President Masoud Barzani and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who have maintained constant communication to ensure swift assistance reaches the victims.

"President Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani have been in constant telephone contact with us in recent days to help the victims as soon as possible and do whatever is necessary for them," Governor Tatar affirmed.

Addressing the issue of housing in flood-prone areas, Governor Tatar outlined plans to repair the Hishkaroo river area, emphasizing the government's commitment to safeguarding citizens' lives. He noted that any houses situated outside the master plan would be addressed promptly, with President Barzani authorizing the provision of new apartments for affected families.

Despite the challenges posed by the disaster, Governor Tatar expressed gratitude for the support extended by the KDP leadership and KRG Prime Minister. However, he underscored that additional assistance from other parties had not materialized, with compensation solely provided by President Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

The response from KDP leaders underscores their dedication to addressing the needs of communities impacted by natural disasters, reaffirming their commitment to serving the people of Kurdistan. As efforts continue to rebuild and rehabilitate affected areas, the resolve of the KDP leadership to stand by those in distress remains unwavering.

Tragically, the heavy rains on Tuesday morning, dated March 19, resulted in three fatalities, submerged residences, and disrupted transportation networks, underscoring the severity of the situation.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani personally reached out to Dr. Ali Tatar, the governor of Duhok, emphasizing the urgency of safeguarding citizens' lives and coordinating relief efforts without delay.

The Kurdistan Regional Government's decisive actions in the face of adversity underline its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, even amidst the most challenging circumstances.
