ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Jack Lopresti, a prominent Conservative UK MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke and the Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Kurdistan, on Tuesday told Kurdistan24 that "UK-Kurdistan Region relationships are going from strength to strength."

Regarding the recent Iranian missile attack on Erbil, the UK PM called it “appalling” and said, “It's another example of the very malign and dark influence of Iran throughout the Middle East.”

Lopresti reaffirmed the UK government’s support to the Kurdistan region on many different levels “diplomatically, and economically with commerce and businesses and also military assistance and training in Kurdistan.”

“I've visited the UK military camp there [in Erbil] on more than one occasion. So, the UK government is committed to stability and peace in the region and to doing what we can to help support our friends in Kurdistan,” he added.

The chairman of APPG on Kurdistan also said that they want to help “Kurdish friends.”

"We've got a real deep bond of friendship with the Kurdish communities here in the UK and I think it's a really strong bond which will only deepen and strengthen in the years to come,” he concluded.

As an integral part of the 86-member of Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, Britain has been assisting the Kurdish and Iraqi forces in the fight against the terror group, whose self-styled caliphate was brought down in 2017 in the country.

A number of Kurdish cadres have been provided opportunities by London to study at the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, including two female Peshmerga officers.
