Duhok Civil Defense quells market blaze, investigation launched

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Monday morning, a large fire broke out at the Chale bazaar in Dohuk. According to a Kurdistan24 reporter, the fire broke out in the middle of the bazaar and firefighters rushed to the burning marketplace to quell the blaze.

In a swift response to the fire at the Chale bazaar in Dohuk, Colonel Bewar Abdulaziz, the voice of authority from the Duhok Civil Defense, delivered an update to Kurdistan24, confirming the successful extinguishment of a blaze that engulfed a market area.

While the flames have been subdued, attention now turns to uncovering the fire's origins and assessing the toll it has exacted on the community.

After hours of tireless effort, the fire was brought under control with no reported casualties.

However, the valiant efforts of the firefighting team were not without sacrifice, as 11 brave members suffered from smoke-induced asthma, necessitating immediate medical intervention to ensure their well-being.

Colonel Abdulaziz stated that over 100 shops were damaged in the in the fire. Despite the widespread damage inflicted upon the commercial hub, neighboring residential properties emerged unscathed, a testament to the skill and dedication of the emergency responders.

Previously, on Tuesday evening Feb. 27, a large fire broke out at the Langa bazaar in Erbil. According to a Kurdistan24 reporter, the fire broke out in the middle of the bazaar and firefighters requested assistance from other teams due to its size.

The reporter also stated that according to preliminary information, no burns had been reported.

Approximately 10% to 15% of the bazaar burned, and there was a chance that the fire would spread, according to a Kurdistan24 reporter on the scene. The fire started at 7:23 p.m.

Kurdistan24 reported that to protect the stores and surrounding streets, firemen and civil defense units worked to control the fire and wanted to open a safe path to reach the source of the fire.

The Langa bazaar in Erbil had undergone contemporary renovations, but on Feb. 27 it caught fire once more.

The Langa Market in Erbil is situated between two 40 and 100-meter streets. It is home to hundreds of shops where a significant portion of people conduct business.
