ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - In a landmark development spearheaded by the Kurdish Council and supported by two other non-Kurdish activists in Germany, the Kurdish language is poised to be integrated into the teaching and theoretical examinations for driving licenses.

Amid the growing need for accessibility and inclusivity, an office has been inaugurated in Berlin, Germany, dedicated to facilitating the driving learning process for individuals facing language barriers, particularly those with limited proficiency in German.

This initiative aims to provide support to prospective drivers preparing for both theoretical and practical tests.

Hamid Osman, the proprietor of the newly established office, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "It is a gratifying experience to sit at the computer and participate in the exam in Kurdish. Once Kurdish language options are available in the examinations, we will endeavor to offer instruction in Kurdish as well."

The Kurdish Council in Germany, in collaboration with German journalist Tobias Huch and Member of Parliament Oliver Luksic, has been actively advocating for the inclusion of the Kurdish language in the German education system and the issuance of driver's licenses for the past three years.

Shilan Kurdpour, a member of the Kurdish Council in Germany, underscored the multifaceted benefits of incorporating Kurdish into the driving license system, stating, "The initiative holds dual advantages. Kurdish citizens will benefit from the issuance of driver's licenses, while the German government stands to gain from the contributions of Kurdish citizens to the country."

Obtaining a driver's license in Germany is often deemed a costly endeavor, with expenses reaching up to 3,500 euros. Additionally, the theory test poses a significant challenge, with approximately half of the candidates failing to pass on their first attempt.

As efforts to promote linguistic diversity and inclusivity gain momentum, the inclusion of the Kurdish language in German driving license examinations marks a significant step forward in facilitating access to essential services for minority communities in Germany.

The Kurdish Council in Germany has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights and recognition of Kurdish communities within the country. Collaborative efforts with local activists and lawmakers have yielded tangible results, as evidenced by the forthcoming inclusion of the Kurdish language in driving license examinations.

The initiative not only addresses linguistic barriers but also underscores the importance of cultural representation and inclusion in public services. By accommodating diverse linguistic needs, Germany reaffirms its commitment to promoting equality and accessibility for all its residents.
