IED bomb kills three Turkish soldiers in southeast Turkey

On Thursday, three Turkish soldiers were killed while their military vehicle crossed a village in Siirt Province, southeast of Turkey.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) –On Thursday, three Turkish soldiers were killed while their military vehicle crossed a village in Siirt Province, southeast of Turkey.

A Turkish armored vehicle carrying soldiers was detonated when it drove over an improvised explosive device (IED) bomb in the village of Karabogazi in Siirt. Following the explosion, the wounded soldiers were transferred to Siirt hospitals to receive medical treatments.

The explosion killed three soldiers, according to a statement by Siirt Province issued on Thursday.

A Kurdistan24 reporter stated that military vehicles were sent to the area to combat and arrest the fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) military wing in the area, who are believed to have planted the bomb.

The ceasefire between PKK and Turkish government collapsed in July 2015 following the parliamentary elections.

Since then, over 1,761 people have been killed, including civilians, states security troops and PKK members, according to the International Crisis Group (ICG).

The conflict has led to the evacuation and destruction of many Kurdish areas in the southeast of Turkey. The city of Nusaybin in Mardin Province is one of the many that have been highly affected.

Kurdish officials have often emphasized that the conflict between PKK and the Turkish state cannot be resolved via military operations, but through peaceful negotiations.
