PKK alleged attack on Turkish base kills 2, wounds 6 soldiers

Kurdish PKK fighters reportedly attacked Turkish military base southeast of Turkey Friday, killed at least two and injured 6 soldiers.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Kurdish PKK fighters reportedly attacked Turkish military base in the southeast of Turkey on Friday, killing two and injuring six soldiers.

Turkish military base in Tukeli (Gare) area of Shamzinli (Shamzinan), Hakkari (Colemerg) Province in the southeast of Turkey was attacked by artilleries. Eventually at least two soldiers were killed and six more wounded, Kurdistan24 reporter Hassan Kako stated.

Following the attack, ambulances rushed to the scene and transferred the wounded soldiers to the nearest hospital in Colemerg.

Although PKK has not claimed responsibility for the attack yet, Turkish state media claimed that the PKK fighters have carried out the offensive.

Following the attack, Turkish warplanes started to shell PKK bases in Mount Qandil, north of Kurdistan Region. The attacks particularly targeted Jorja, Beshuk, Spiyara and Hamrush areas.

Also, the Governorate of Colemerg released a statement that a PKK member has surrendered himself to security in the Province at 11:30 am local time, but PKK has not confirmed this report either.

Clashes between the PKK-armed wings and Turkish army deepened in the Kurdistan of Turkey (Bakur) following the July 2015 re-elections in the country.

In the beginning of August, Turkish military restarted clashes with PKK in Shamzinan and imposed curfews in the area.

Recently, Turkish government presented a draft bill to the Parliament to promote Cizire and Yuksekova as new provinces and downgrade Shirnak and Colemerg to districts. The bill angered the Kurdish people for downgrading their provinces.
