Turkish warplanes resume airstrike in Erbil province’s Bradost area: source

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Turkish fighter jets resumed bombardment of the Bradost area in the Kurdistan Region’s Erbil province on early Thursday following a relatively calm period in the area, causing no civilian casualties, sources told Kurdistan 24.

The airstrike, which took place around 10:36 a.m. on Thursday, came after a relatively calm period of no airstrikes, Ishan Chalabi, the mayor of Sidakan, told Kurdistan 24.

The rural areas of Bradost, namely Sneen and Berkim, were hit by the airstrike, Chalabi added.

The attack, according to the source, did not cause any civilian causalities. However, it was near farmers and nomads in the area, the mayor noted.

Turkish airstrikes and bombardments of the Kurdistan Region’s border areas occur frequently, as Ankara claims they are intended to target its 30-year-long rival, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

In its latest cross-border military campaign, the so-called Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle operations, Turkish forces have killed several civilians, amid ongoing clashes between the Turkish army and the PKK, which is headquartered in the region’s Qandil mountains.

Frequent clashes between the PKK and Turkish forces have not been devoid of civilian causalities.

In late July, a Turkish airstrike in rural parts of the Kurdistan Region’s Duhok province killed at least two civilians.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has condemned the attacks and demanded that both Turkey and the PKK withdraw from the autonomous region and take their fight elsewhere.
