ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Duhok Irrigation Directorate has reported significant damage to ponds and dams in Duhok province following the floods that occurred in mid-March. In response, a committee has been established by the governor of Duhok to initiate repair efforts swiftly.

Heja Abdulwahid, Director of Duhok Irrigation, informed Kurdistan24 today that the floods in mid-March inflicted severe damage on ponds and dams across Duhok. The governor of Duhok promptly formed a committee to commence repairs without delay.

Abdulwahid disclosed that out of the 51 ponds constructed by the Kurdistan Regional Government in Duhok, all have sustained various degrees of damage due to the floods. Both completed and unfinished ponds have been affected, necessitating urgent restoration measures.

The committee, tasked with assessing the extent of the damage, will conduct site visits to different areas next week to evaluate the condition of the ponds and devise a comprehensive repair plan.

Subsequently, on March 22, 2024, Mansour Barzani visited flood-affected neighborhoods in Duhok, emphasizing the commencement of cleanup operations as part of the second phase of the response effort.
