Iran receives its first Airbus plane

The plane is set to leave Toulouse for Tehran on Thursday as an Iranian delegation will be on board.

TOULOUSE, France (Kurdistan24) – Iran on Wednesday received its first Airbus plane in Toulouse France in an official ceremony.

The delivered Airbus A321 is the first in a batch of 100 jets ordered under a landmark fleet-renewal deal.

The plane is set to leave Toulouse for Tehran on Thursday as an Iranian delegation will be on board.

“Today, for civil aviation in Iran, is a memorable day,” Managing Director of Iran Air Farhad Parvaresh said.

Jan. 11 is a crucial day in Iran-EU ties’ calendar, the official added, saying the “distance” caused by “biased political” adversity had been “narrowed” by international peacemakers.

“I can foresee great success and dignity for both of our companies,” Parvaresh continued.

He pointed out a “change in international perspective” had helped pave the way for the agreement.

Parvaresh was referring to the landmark Iran Deal with 5+1 world powers which lifted economic sanctions on Tehran in return for halting its nuclear activities.

During the ceremony, Airbus commercial aircraft president Fabrice Bregier said, “This agreement is one of the most significant deals in the history of civil aviation.”

The plane will be used for domestic flights mainly, Iran Air officials confirmed.

Airbus has won 731 net aircraft orders in 2016, including 321 in December alone, according to the European planemaker.

Alongside the Iran deal, Airbus said it also received an order for 72 A320neo aircrafts from India’s Go Air.

Airbus also booked an order for 90 A320 family jets from an undisclosed customer, which Reuters said was expected to be from Saudi carrier Flynas.
