The conference aims to showcase the potential areas of cooperation between the Netherlands, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region for developing the general Agri-Food sector.

“The conference invites rural service providers, policy makers, businesses and scientists around the globe to come together and share their knowledge and experiences about nutrition sensitive agriculture initiatives that improve livelihoods of rural communities and engage policy makers at national and global discourse,” read the conference’s website.

The Kurdish Dutch Business Consortium is also involved in organizing the conference.

Currently, the Dutch government supports farmers in Erbil, Duhok, Halabja, Zakho, and Sulaimani.

Last year, the Dutch Consul General in Erbil, Hans Akerboom, told Kurdistan 24 that the Dutch government wants to support the Kurdistan Region’s domestic agricultural production.

The region imports heavily from neighboring Turkey and Iran to meet local demand. The current Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) ninth cabinet aims to reduce reliance on agricultural products from neighboring countries.
