KRG Presidency supports federalism in Syria

Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP) released a statement on Thursday, officially supporting federalism in Syria.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP) released a statement on Thursday, officially supporting federalism in Syria.

KRP calls on all Kurdish parties in Syria to unite and insist on a federal system as a solution for Syria in particular and the Kurdish question in general.

KRP’s statement follows Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov proposal on Feb. 29 stating that Syria could become a federal state. While most Syrian Kurds support federalism since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, it is rejected by most opposition parties and forces.

Moreover, on Feb. 16, Aldar Khalil, head of the Rojava-based Democratic Movement Society (TEV-DEM) called on all organizations and parties in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) to prepare for a federal system in Syria.

The leader of Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) Ibrahim Biro recently told Kurdistan24 that ENKS supports a peaceful solution and seeks a federal state in Syria as it offers stability and democracy for all citizens.
