ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received the newly inaugurated Qatari consul general to Erbil after the Gulf state had recently inaugurated its diplomatic mission in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region for the first time.

Prime Minister Barzani extended his congratulations to Consul General Hussein bin Ali Al Fadala on the occasion of his inauguration and establishment of the consulate general, according to a statement from the Kurdish leader’s office.

Wishing the new diplomat success in his endeavor, the premier expressed the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s willingness to develop bilateral relations, the press release added.

Consul General Al Fadala conveyed the greetings of Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Barzani and highlighted the “strong relations” between Erbil and Doha.

He also expressed willingness to develop ties with the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the investment and economic sectors.

The new diplomat met with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday in Erbil as well.

Barzani in early 2022 visited Qatar and met with the country’s top leaders, with whom he had discussed a number of areas of cooperation, including enhancing diplomatic ties and agricultural cooperation.

The Kurdish region has long seen the Gulf markets as a potential place for exporting its agricultural produce, including pomegranates that have already appeared on a number of Gulf markets’ shelves, including the UAE.
