Flemish-Kurdish Minister replies to anonymous account on X

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Flemish minister for Justice and Enforcement, Environment, Energy and Tourism Zuhal Demir, a Kurd from Turkey, on Friday responded to an anonymous account, who called her a ‘retarded Turkish mountain goat’.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Demir, she shared a screenshot with her reply. “Goat. And excuse me, it's a Kurdish mountain goat.”

She further wrote on X, that some “people really have no manners… have a nice weekend!”

In the past, she had received police protection after being threatened by farmers.

Demir was sworn in as the Flemish government’s state secretary for justice after briefly serving as Belgium’s state secretary for socioeconomic affairs in 2019.

Belgium, as a federal state, has a separate Flemish government for the Dutch-speaking Flanders region.

In 2017, announced Friday Demir renounced her Turkish citizenship, arguing that her Kurdish identity annoys Turkey.

Demir, was born and raised in Belgium to migrant parents from the Kurdish province of Dersim. She has proudly expressed her Kurdish identity.
