KRG delegation met with senior Italian officials in Rome, boosts ties with Italy

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), led by Dr. Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Investment Board, and Safeen Dizayee, Head of the Foreign Relations Office, separately met with Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Deputy Foreign Minister Edmundo Cirielli on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

The delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) met with the Italian Defense Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister in Rome. Both sides reaffirmed their support for the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga forces.

Regarding the content of the delegation's meetings, spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Investment Board Bargasht Akrayi told Kurdistan24, “Military and political relations between Erbil and Rome, Italy's support for the Peshmerga Ministry, and the Kurdistan Regional Government's concerns about the latest decisions of the Federal Court and several other issues were discussed between the two delegations.

The Italian Defense Minister reiterated his country's readiness to cooperate with the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi government to resolve outstanding issues through peace and dialogue.

Regarding the meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation with the Italian Deputy Foreign Minister, the spokesman said: "We are very pleased with the protection of the rights of communities and peaceful coexistence between different communities and nationalities in the Kurdistan Region."

"The Italian Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized his country's support for the Kurdistan Region and stated that the strength and stability of the Kurdistan Region are crucial for peace and stability in Iraq and the region," Akrayi said.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) delegation had arrived in Rome on Thursday to strengthen military and political relations between the Kurdistan Region and Italy. They met with the Italian Senate Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee.
