HDP calls on Kurdistan Region to mediate in Turkey

In a visit to the Kurdistan Region, a Kurdish HDP MP asked the Kurdistan Region to call on Turkey for dialogue in addressing the current clashes in the country, said the spokesperson of the Kurdistan Islamic Movement (KIM) party on Wednesday.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – During a visit to the Kurdistan Region, a Member of Turkish Parliament asked Kurdistan Region to Intervene in Turkish-PKK dispute in order to bring about an agreement or reconciliation that would stop the current clashes in the country, said the spokesperson of the Kurdistan Islamic Movement (KIM) party on Wednesday.

The pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) delegates, headed by MP Dilek Ocalan, visited Kurdistan Region and met with KIU party officials, the fourth largest party in the Region.

The spokesperson of KIM, Abdulla Warti, revealed the purpose of HDP’s visit to Kurdistan24 and stated that they call on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to play an effective role in returning stability to the Kurdistan of Turkey.

“They asked the KRG and political parties in Kurdistan Region to respond to the current situation in North Kurdistan [Turkey’s Kurdistan],” Warti said. “They asked the KRG to call on Turkey to solve the internal problems in the country through dialogue and peace talks.”

According to Warti, Dilek has called on the KRG to play a role in bringing stability back to Turkey’s southeastern area in general, and improve HDP’s relation with Turkish AKP ruling party.

The clashes between the Turkish government and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters in the country started in the 1980s. In 2013, KRG contributed to the ceasefire, and the peace process went on until July 2015 when clashes erupted again and continue to date.

A top UN official recently deplored Turkish government's military abuses in the Kurdistan of Turkey, stating that more than 100 people were burned to death while sheltering in basements in Cizre.
