Kurdistan delegation discusses post-IS with US officials in Washington

There was positive remarks on the Kurds during the US presidential election campaigns.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – A Kurdistan Region official revealed the agenda of the Region’s delegates visiting the US officials of the current administration and the team of President-elect Donald Trump.

Fuad Hussein, the Chief of Staff to the Kurdistan Region Presidency who accompanies the Kurdistan Region delegation headed by the Region’s Security Council Chancellor Masrour Barzani, spoke to Kurdistan24 about the upcoming meetings.

Hussein said that “The main aim of this visit is to be familiar with the perspective of the new team coming into power in the US and to find out their plans regarding the relations between the US and Kurdistan.”

“There were positive remarks on the Kurds in general and about the Kurdistan Region in specific during the US presidential election campaign,” Hussein added.

Hussein added that in the meetings the delegation has so far received everyone's supports for the Kurdistan Region and its Peshmerga force, stating that “We want to discuss the post-Islamic State (IS) era because it is important to exchange opinions on the future of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the Middle East after the war against IS is over.”

Masrour Barzani and accompanied delegation are in Washington DC to discuss the future of the Kurdistan Region with the current US administration and the administration of the President-elect Donald Trump.

Hussain explained that the Kurdistan Region's visit to the US before the new administration comes to power is a strategic move.

“Kurdistan Region has good relations with the US, and having contact with the new administration is very important,” Hussein told Kurdistan24.
